Card From a Colored Minister

Mr. Editor--As it is almost impossible to get the least thing printed in this town without alterations being made to suit the purpose of others, and not as the owner of the article may desire.  I ask that you give to us a small space in this week's issue of your paper so that I may have the public to know the truth of my statement as I desire it, and not as others may choose to dictate:

The dedication of the newly finished Baptist Church at Kean's Neck, South Carolina took place on Sunday before last, 21st instant.  There were about 900 persons present who witnessed the very interesting ceremonies, and the ministers present were: Revs. S. H. Chisolm, A. Waddell, H. G. Reed, John Lucas, Sanders and Rev. Singleton, of Barnwell County, also Rev. Samuel Chisolm.  The impressive services was commenced by Rev. S. H. Chisolm, reading and singing hymn 936, after which the 13th chapter of First Corinthians was read by Rev. Waddell, and hymn 937 was sung, "Spirit Divine Attend Our Prayer," &c.  This concluded, the Rev. Waddell read the 21st. chapter St. Matthews Gospel, taking this text at the 13th verse: "And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves."  This little tabernacle built to God, Mr. Editor, is now one of the handsomest upon the main land, and how very appropriately one may well remark: Let strangers even walk around the cozy spot where it dwells, and view with care the holy ground and mark the building well.  This dear little church we trust will prosper and grow under the newly christened name of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church of Kean's Neck, South Carolina.
