Dea Johnson

Deacon Bernard Johnson was born March 11, 1957 in Orangeburg, SC.  He is the son of the late Ms. Lucile Johnson of Orangeburg.  Deacon Johnson was educated in Orangeburg County at Whitaker Elementary, Brookdale Junior High, and graduated from Orangeburg Wilkinson High School.  Upon his graduation in1976, Deacon Johnson moved to Queens, NY where he later entered the Marine Corps.  Deacon Johnson’s military career began when he was 19 years old.  In 1982, he was selected and served as a Marine Corps Drill Instructor with F Company, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, Parris Island, SC.  It was during his tour as a Drill Instructor that Deacon Johnson was first introduced to Rev. Moore.  Upon completion of his Drill Instructor tour in 1985, the Marine Corps transferred him to Okinawa, Japan.  In 1988 Deacon Johnson, then a Staff Sergeant in the Marine Corps, became a member at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.  In 1990, the Marine Corps promoted him to Gunnery Sergeant and Mt. Carmel appointed him as Treasurer of the Mt. Carmel Scholarship Fund. 

On October 1, 2000, Deacon Johnson was ordained as a deacon and became a member of the board.  Deacon Johnson is married to the former Ms. Gloria Washington of Miami, FL.  They have two children:  Dwight and Shalonda.  God Bless you and keep you always.
